Students at Luther College can enjoy a full range of music appreciation courses from grades 9 through 12. These classes aim to enrich students' knowledge of music and move students forward to a greater understanding of music. Music classes at Luther focus on a general study of communication through sound where students learn concentration, team work and self-discipline. Students learn about sound and the creation of sound, and develop singing and instrumental skills. Developing strong listening skills is also emphasized through the exploration of a variety of music.
The Music 9 course is a non-performance class takes an arts education approach and examines some history and theory of music, and explores the elements of music: melody, harmony, dnaymic, rhythym, form, and tambre. Higher level music courses maintain a focus on guided listening to explore a large variety of styles.
